Lift 4 Progress - Summer 2022

We have been very busy this summer and working hard on Lift 4 as we get closer to Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board Certification. Long-time volunteers Kevin and Jeremy along with community members, and two experienced lift mechanics have accomplished a lot. Highlights include:

  • Fixed lift operator electrical controls panel & lift runs completely on electrical power

  • Wire rope passed inspection

  • Upgraded bearings, linings, and bolts on all 70+ sheave wheels

  • Replaced counterweight cables and reset counterweight

  •   Replaced bullwheel nuts and bolts

  • Checked off nearly 90 other punch-list items needed for certification

We are almost ready for state certification this fall and with it being able to open lift-served skiing at Cuchara Mountain Park for limited skiing operations this winter. Despite spending more than $40k this summer we still face a few costly steps to get to certification. This includes over $20k to pay for the certification itself as well as pay for insurance.

As a 501c3 non-profit we are reliant on donors to fund these final start up costs. Please consider helping today! Any amount can make an immediate impact to return skiing to Cuchara in the Winter of 2022/23.
